About

Amigos del Peru is changing.  From being part of the outreach of Christ Church, Plano, Texas we are now provisionally an independent 501(c)(3).  In English it means becoming a registered charity in the USA.  The main reason is simply that what began as an outreach has become too big and complex and we need to stand on our own.  We have a board, a treasurer and are able to receive financial contributions, deductible under IRS guidelines.  our address is: -

Bishop William Godfrey

Bishop William Godfrey and the mission team at Christ Church  appointed me to be their part time executive director.  Now that AdP is launched as a 501c3 I have moved on to my primary calling which is to serve the bishops and clergy of Peru.  I am foremost a SAMS missionary.  I am delighted that we have launched AdP independently and I will continue to provide newsletters and blog updates on what God is doing in Peru.

I spend nine months of the year as a SAMS missionary in Peru and three months in the USA at our home in Vermont.  I am an ordained Anglican clergyman from the Church of England and have served in the United states for over thirty years before retirement.  God called my wife Polly and I to be missionaries in Peru in 2008.  This is our “jubilee” ministry – seeking to be useful in retirement.

Canon Ian Montgomery

We invite you to follow this blog as it develops and partner with us here in Peru.  We need support.  We need prayer and finances.  In today’s mission world it is not so much about sending missionaries as it is making it possible for national Christians to evangelize and minister in their own country.  They are already here, already know the language and already know the culture.  The cost of sending one US missionary for a year will support six or seven national missionary clergy.  That is not to say that foreign missionaries are not needed.  They are, but in a support role.  In Peru we are working to develop more national clergy and leaders and especially we want to see Peruvian bishops leading the Anglican Church here in Peru.
